Carlene and Marcus both grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. While Carlene grew up in a Christian home, Marcus did not. Still, he began attending a youth group in his elementary school, becoming acquainted with the Bible. The two met when they were in the same high school class.
After graduating high school, Carlene went to Pambrun, Saskatchewan, to attend Millar College of the Bible. At this time, Marcus began his apprenticeship to become an electrician. This first year out of high school was a crucial point in their faith journey, as they both began to recognize the need they had for a Saviour and who that Saviour is. With this knowledge, they both recommitted their lives to Christ and began to mature in their faith.
During Carlene’s time at Millar, she volunteered at a youth drop-in ministry in Swift Current. It was here that the Lord put a burden for youth on her heart as she saw the brokenness and confusion about their identity and purpose in life. This burden was the beginning of a desire and calling into youth ministry.
Carlene became aware of Impact Canada at Millar’s Missions Conference as she sought a youth ministry internship. God led her to join ICM to complete her fourth-year internship working at a drop-in youth program in Saskatoon, potentially joining ICM long-term. In January of 2021, Carlene joined ICM as a full-time missionary, graduating later that spring with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies.
Carlene and Marcus were married in August of 2021 and currently live in Saskatoon. Marcus continues his electrical apprenticeship and supports Carlene in her calling and roles with ICM. Together they serve as youth leaders in their church, working with both churched and unchurched youth to share the truth of Jesus. Carlene and Marcus both understand the importance of growing and maturing in their faith and are actively involved in a discipleship group to strengthen their marriage and equip them for their current and future ministries.
