The Necessity of the Resurrection
The bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is one of the central truths of the good news! Without it, Christianity is invalid! The tremendous importance of His resurrection is seen in that it is:
- (Revised) Author unknown
1. Necessary to the Gospel.
Paul wrote, "For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by. . .over five hundred brethren." I Corinthians 15:3-6.
2. Necessary to Our Salvation
"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9.
Personal faith in a living Saviour can only be truly demonstrated by inviting Him into your life.
3. Necessary to Our Fruitfulness
"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me." John 15:4 Spiritual union with Christ enables the Holy Spirit to show His fruit in us.
4. Necessary to Our Consecration
"...He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again." 2 Corinthians 5:15. Christ's love should be the motivating factor in our service to Him. After all, He not only died for us, but He lives in us!
5. Necessary to Our Security
"Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us." Romans 8:34. Christ bore our condemnation and set us free from the power of sin (flesh) and our guilt. He also sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for us, we are safe in His hands!
6. Necessary to our Resurrection
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus." I Thessalonians 4:14. "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself." Philippians 3:21-22.
The Savior Himself said, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remis-
sion of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." Luke 24:46-47.
My friend, what is your personal relationship to this crucified, buried, risen, exalted and glorified Savior, Jesus Christ?
