"It was battered and scarred, and the auctioneer
Thought it scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin,
But he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bidden, good folk?" he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?
"A dollar - a dollar- then two, only two -
"Two dollars, and who'll make it three?
"Going for three" - but no-
From the room far back, a gray-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow,
Then, wiping the dust from the old violin,
And tightening the loosened strings,
He played a melody pure and sweet
As a caroling angel sings.
The music ceased, and the auctioneer,
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said, "NOW what am I bid for the old violin?"
And held it up with the bow.
"A thousand dollars - and who'll make it two?
"Two thousand - and who'll make it three?
"Three thousand once - three thousand twice -
"And going - and gone," cried he.
The people cheered, but some of them cried,
"We do not understand.
"What changed its worth?" - Quick came the reply,
The Touch of the Master's Hand
And many a man with life out of tune,
And battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap, to a thoughtless crowd,
Much like the old violin.
A 'mess of pottage' - a glass of wine,
A game - and he travels on:
He is going once - and going twice -
He's going - and almost gone!
But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd
Never can quite understand
The worth of a soul, and the change that's wrought
By the Touch of the Master's Hand
Let His Hand Touch You
God's Word declares, "All have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. Do you recognize yourself in this statement? If so, there is hope
for you in Christ. You cannot save yourself by a life of good works which you might do, but Christ will save you if you come to Him as a lost sinner.
The Bible tells us that it is "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us..." Titus 3:5. It is only the Master's Hand through the Lord Jesus Christ that can transform your soul and give you new life. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12.
Hear His call, "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though
they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool." Isaiah 1:18. How can the Master touch you and change your sins from scarlet to white? "...Sirs, what
must I do to be saved?"
So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved... Acts 16:30,31.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believed in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 To
reject God's offer of mercy and life through His Son is to perish in your sins, for "unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Luke 13:3.
Friend, are you saved from the coming judgment of God? If not, why not? With such a full and free salvation, why delay? To delay may mean eternal regret.
May God so work in your heart, dear friend, that you shall see yourself as God declares you to be, a lost sinner with no power to save yourself, and in repentance put yourself in Christ, the Master's hand. He will save you and transform your life.
Yield your will to the Lord Jesus Christ, praying this prayer: "Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, I have sinned against You, and I want peace.
I know, now, that Your death on the cross was to pay for my sins. Therefore, I invite You into my life to be my personal Saviour and Lord. I realize that by having You, I have eternal life! I thank You for cleansing and forgiving me, and for filling me with Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
