Who is God?
Some people think the sun is their god and they pray to it. But the sun is not a god. It cannot hear people when they pray.
Some people make idol gods out of wood or stone or of gold and silver, but these gods cannot hear them.
Some people say, "There is no god," and they do not pray at all. But there is a little voice in each heart that tells people there is a God.
We cannot see God because He is a spirit. He does not have a body but He sees and hears and loves.
Because He is God and because He is a spirit;
God can be everywhere at the same time.
God knows all things.
God is pure and never sins.
God always does right.
God is all light and glory and holiness.
God is very great and almighty. He made heaven and earth. When God made heaven and earth He made
everything beautiful and good. Read Genesis 1. Adam and Eve were the very first man and woman God
made. After He made them, He walked and talked with them in the beautiful Garden of Eden, but ...
Sin Came into the World
God has a great enemy -- Satan. Satan is a wicked angel who hates God and wants everybody else to hate God too. Satan tempted Adam and Eve. Because they disobeyed God, they became sinners.
When Adam and Eve had children, their children were sinners. Every baby is born with sin in his or her heart. When you do what God tells you not to do, that is sin. When you do not do what He wants you to do, that is sin too.
Yes, you sin against God very much!
Do you do unkind and mean things to others?
Do you get angry and want to hurt somebody for hurting you?
Do you steal and lie?
"All we like sheep have gone astray." Isaiah 53:6
Sin makes you unholy and keeps you away from God because God is very holy and there is no sin in Him.
"Your sins have hid His face from you." Isaiah 59:2
If nothing sinful can go to God, how can you go to Him? When you think how sinful you are, and how great and holy God is, you dare not go to Him as you are.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
The Bible tells you that all sin must be punished, and that all sinners will be lost forever.
"For the wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23
But God does not want to punish you. God -- the holy God, loves you even though you are very sinful.
God hates sin, but He loves you.
Do you know what He did to save you from your punishment -- from eternal death?
God Sent His Only Son
The Bible tells how Jesus, God's only Son, came to earth as a little baby born in Bethlehem. The
angel said to the shepherds, "I have good news for you. Unto you is born
this day, ... a Saviour which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:11
Jesus lived on earth about 30 years.
He went everywhere doing good.
He healed the sick.
He made the blind to see.
And then He did the most wonderful thing of all.
He gave Himself to die on the cross for you.
"I lay down my life for the sheep." John 10:15
Jesus died and rose again so that your sins could be forgiven, and you could go to heaven to be with Him forever. God loved you so much that He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus, to die for you, and now He wants you to become His child.
How to Become a Child of God
If you are really sorry for your sins, God will forgive you.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins." I John 1:9
You must believe that Jesus is the only way to God. Jesus is your Saviour and can forgive you.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Acts 16:31
If you ask God to forgive your sins and if you believe that Jesus died on the cross for you, the Bible says that God forgives all your sins for Jesus' sake. A wonderful thing takes place in your heart. Ask God to take away your sin and thank God for Jesus who shed His blood on the cross so that your sins can be forgiven. You have a new heart. A heart that does not want to sin.
A heart that loves God.
A heart that wants to please God.
You are now born again, and are called a Christian.
"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3
After you are born again or have confessed your sins and asked Jesus to give you a new heart, you are God's child.
How Does a Child of God Live?
You opened your heart's door when you were willing to confess your sins, and now Jesus has come in and is living there. That is why you are so happy and different. The sins that made your heart ugly and dirty have left. Now your heart is filled with the Holy Spirit.
When you feel unkind and mean to others, you can ask God to help you love them instead. God's children are new creatures because Jesus now lives in their hearts.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17
God's children love Him. If you are really God's child, you will want to love Him because Jesus died on the cross to save you from sin.
"We love Him, because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19
God's children love one another. God says you must love Him best. But He also says you must love others just as much as yourself.
"Love one another, as I have loved you." John 15:12.
God's children are sometimes tempted to do wrong. Do you know what to say if someone tells you to do something wrong? You must say, "No!"
Sometimes you do not want to do something that your mom has told you to do. Then you must say, "No, I will not disobey my mom."
Sometimes your friends will tempt you to do something that is not right. Then you must say, "No" to them.
Satan does not like it that you have accepted Jesus into your heart. So he will try everything to make you do wrong.
God's children must read the Bible and pray every day. Just as it is necessary for you to eat food each day to keep your body well and strong, so you must feed your soul to grow as a child of God. The food necessary to keep your soul alive and growing is God's word -- the Bible.
God is your heavenly Father. You talk to Him just as you do to your earthly father and this is called praying.
You must faithfully read God's word and pray every day to help you live closer to God and to help you resist Satan's temptations.
As you read the Bible, memorize Bible verses which you think will help you. The Book of John is a good place to start reading, maybe Acts, and then the Epistles. You cannot read the whole Bible in one day, but you should read a little each day.
When praying, ask God to help you understand what you read in His Word. You can pray kneeling in your room, while walking to school, sitting in the classroom, on the playground, anywhere, anytime, out loud or quietly.
What to pray:
1. Ask Jesus to forgive your sins.
2. Thank Jesus for what He has done.
3. Tell Him how much you love Him.
4. Pray for your parents, relatives, friends, church, missionaries, the sick, unsaved, and anyone else God reminds you to pray for.
5. Tell Him about your problems and needs. Ask Him for help, strength and guidance in living for Him.
Pray in Jesus' name.
"If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." John 14:14
As a child of God you should not want to sin, but if you do sin, pray and tell Jesus exactly what you did. Ask Him to forgive you and then try to make it right.
God's children should associate with other children of God.
Fellowship is an extra special friendship. God made you for fellowship. He loves you and wants to be your friend. He wants you to love Him and be His friend. Fellowship with God makes you a happy Christian.
Friendship with other Christian boys and girls makes you a stronger Christian. Going to Sunday School, church, prayer meetings, Christian camps and Vacation Bible School would be a good place to make these friends. Do not run around with a gang of boys and girls who do not know Jesus, but be sure your best friends are born again Christians.
God's children should be strong in the Lord.
"Be strong in the Lord." Ephesians 6:10
Do not be ashamed to be called a Christian. Jesus was not ashamed to die for your sins.
"For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: For it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes." Romans 1:16
Tell others about Jesus every chance you can, so that others will come to the kingdom of Heaven too. There are still so many who do not know Jesus and who have never even heard of His wonderful love.
Jesus tells us in Mark 16:15, "Go into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature."
You can help missionaries tell the story of Jesus to boys and girls in other countries by giving. You may not be able to give much money but because you now love God you will want to give what you can.
"It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35
If you give because you love Jesus, you will really be giving to Jesus Himself, and this will make you happy because He has done so much for you.
Others may laugh and joke at you for believing in Jesus. Some may even hurt you, but Jesus says in Matthew 5:11, "Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."
You are not to become angry, but pray for them.
"But I say unto you, love your enemies, ... and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you." Matthew 5:44
God's children are some day going to be with God in Heaven. What an awesome day that will be when you will be able to see Jesus and live with Him forever!
Boys and girls have you asked Jesus to forgive your sins and give you a new heart? If not, why not do it right now? Then you will have a new life to live for God
To love Him.
To read His word and talk to Him.
To have other Christian friends.
To tell other people about the Lord Jesus.
To be ready to meet God in Heaven.
