Project Proverbs -- Training up a child in the way he should go...

Project Proverbs

- a home study course to train your child in the way he should go
Order the Binder for $15.00
Order the cerlox bound copy for just $10.00/each

This is an older home correspondence course from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, which was adapted and printed from a family resource first written by Paul Wright, Fred Barshaw and Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. When Prairie Bible Institute discontinued their Department of External Studies, they turned several courses over to Western Tract Mission, Inc.

Western Tract Mission has volunteer correctors who grade the lessons sent in to us from a series of childrens, youth and adult courses. However, we are now offering this one, Project Proverbs, as a course you can do on your own, or with a small group that you might start in your neighbourhood, or in your church. Although the material appears old-fashioned on first glance, the content is quite Biblical, and so enduring and valuable.

The material in the syllabus (binder with 3 cassettes bound inside the cover), is laid out very simply, with all the explanations and instructions you need to study Proverbs, and the very practical activities and methods of training your child or children in godly ways. It even includes instructions for group leaders to show how to conduct your classes.

You may of course, study or teach the Project Proverbs material as you choose. If you decide to go with a parenting class model, you could either go with one session a week and spend an hour and a half to two hours on each class session, or go for thirteen sessions, and each only an hour to an hour and a half. (This would work better for a Sunday School class).

There are activities and projects for the course participants to do with their own families between the sessions and then to discuss with the group at the next meeting. You will also get a set of place mats with review quizzes on them.

On the other hand, if you wish to study the book as a reference book, and just take out the projects to do with your children, you are welcome to do that.

There are; pages to fill out that help evaluate your marriage, an evaluation of your child, teaching on the various stages of rebellion, and how to shape a child's will without provoking the spirit. These are followed by exercises to practice or work out these truths in your own family case situations.

Another section in Project Proverbs looks at the Jewish customs, most of which are quite Biblical, and show how we too, can find parables in everything we see and do, so that we may teach children the way Jesus, or Jewish parents would.

Another section includes some children's hymns and how to teach through the appropriate use of hymns, some of which are filled with parables and proverbs too.

Yet another section has topics for discussion starters at your family mealtimes, and is quite chock full of ideas for family activities. You can play certain family games together, or decode mystery Scriptures, charades, acrostics, 20 Questions, songs, and even family communion. These blue pages are the ones you might have the most dog-eared after a while.

Near the end of your Project Proverbs binder or book is a section with a weekly Scripture memory plan to follow.

Although young parents would benefit from a discussion of this course in a group setting, the lasting value of this course will be as a reference book right in your home! One that lies open and ready most of the time until your children have all left home to start their own.

We are offering the 10 x 12 inch, (1.5 inches thick) Binder syllabus with the three helpful cassettes with additional material for $15.00. The cerlox bound copy (without cassettes) is just $10.00.

NOTE: we will not be reprinting this course. When present quantities are gone it will be out of print.
