Suppose They Had Set Him Free

Suppose.... They Had Set Him Free

Whenever I read the story

In the last few chapters of John,

My heart cries, "Don't kill my Jesus;

I know you are doing him wrong."

For he had done nothing wicked,

He had done the Father's will;

Yet they accused him and they slapped him,

They were bound and determined to kill.

Pilate questioned him in private;

Then, "Here is your King," said he,

"I have found no reason to kill him,"

And he asked, "Shall I set him free?"

And they answered, "No, no, no-o-o,

We want that this man should die;

The emperor's our only king,

So kill him," and "Crucify!"

Now suppose they had changed their minds,

Suppose they had set him free;

That would not have been God's will,

For there'd be none to die for me.

So they went ahead and killed him,

They hung him on the tree;

And there, burdened with my sins, he died,

And I'm the one set free.

But he also rose again,

I can smile as I lift my head;

God's spirit is now within me,

And I know that Christ's not dead.

Dear reader, after reading this article, have you considered the impact on your life if this had indeed come true, if Christ had indeed been set free? Consider Isaiah 53:4&5, "Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed." It was God's purpose to provide a substitute for you from ages past.

Consider also John 3:18, "He who believes on Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." and John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." He is your entrance to God's throne. You need simply to confess yourself a sinner, in need of a Saviour, receive His wonderful gift of eternal life by faith in Christ's atonement for you, thank Him that He has heard and received you into His family, and keep in fellowship with Him in prayer and reading of His word.
