Satan and the Occult - Chapter Fiveby Bruce Pringle
How Demons Enter
The young man was from a lowly family, but he appeared to be of noble character. He was tall, strong and of a tender spirit. It was said that God found favor with the man and ministered to him in special ways. Feeling unworthy of God's love, he debased himself and even avoided God's leading at times. With the tenderness, concern and direction of a godly man he became convinced that God really wanted him to use the God-given leadership qualities he possessed. The man was a good leader; he was loved, respected and followed. As long as God was first in his life, victories were numerous.
Then something happened. As with Lucifer, pride set in. Less and less was godly counsel sought. In fact, his friend and godly counselor was disobeyed and rebuffed. Rejection of God's perfect will and disobedience became more and more evident in his life. Many well-meaning people try to appease God by sacrifices of church going, giving money, heading up programs, teaching Sunday School or singing in the choir, but are not willing to give God their life completely. So too with this man. Time and time again he was given chances to return to God but he refused - rebellion became the controlling force in his life, rather than God's Holy Spirit. Since warnings and godly counsel were rejected, this pronouncement of condemnation was given:
|
Has the Lord as much pleasure in your burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in your obedience?
Obedience is far better than sacrifice. He is much more interested in your listening to Him than in your offering the fat of rams to Him.
For rebellion is as bad as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as bad as worshipping idols. And now because you have rejected the word of Jehovah, he has rejected you from being king.

The man's name was Saul, Israel's first king. From that point of rejection by God, Saul's life is probably the saddest of any other Biblical character. Rebellion led to bitterness, to hatred, to demonic invasion of Saul's life. How God's loving heart must have sorrowed as He witnessed Saul's persecution of David, Saul's uncontrollable wrath, the signing of his own death warrant by visiting a witch, a deed that was punishable by death in Israel, and Saul's suicide. The preceding is one example of how demons can enter, control and eventually destroy an individual. The writer of Hebrews cautions, "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, amd thereby many be defiled." Saul's root of bitterness can play an important role in the occult. Passivity permits a demon access to the personality. A passive state of mind is conducive, if not essential to the entrance of demons.
By the term occult, one would consider areas such as astrology, clairvoyance, fortune telling, horoscopes, levitation, ouija board, seances and zodiac.
World War II was nearly over and Adolf Hitler seemed to sense his soon demise. He placed a demonic curse upon all pregnant women and their unborn children. This was revealed to this counselor by a client. He was within the womb of his German mother when Hitler cursed the mothers of Germany. The curse, coupled with the acquisition of some bloodcult idols from the Mayan culture of ancient Mexico, was destroying this man's life and that of his wife. It was obvious that a renunciation of the demonic invasion was an immediate necessity. The renunciation was made, much to the relief of the client. Satan is a mastermind of devisive, subtle, wicked plans to destroy the world. Satan uses fear, anger, suicide, bitterness, the occult along with many other methods to enter and control people. Most occultists believe they are in contact with good or neutral spirits, not suspecting that these spirits are demons. Much Satan worship in the occult, then, is in disguise.
