William Branham - Truth or Error
The purpose of this pamphlet is to compare what William Branham taught with what the Bible states. The quotes are from the writings of Mr. Branham and his followers. Often times the use of "word" is a reference to Branham's writings, not necessarily to the Bible. The responses are from the New King James Version and can easily be compared to Branham's statements and the King James. This pamphlet was compiled by a group of Christians concerned about the truth. It is sent forth "to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." (Jude 3b).
History of William Marrion Branham
"William Branham was born on April 16, 1909 on a farm near Birksville, Kentucky. [U.S.A.] His mother was fifteen years of age and his father was eighteen years..."
"Immediately after birth a small, bright, circular, one foot in diameter halo shone above mother and child. This halo has been seen by thousands of people since and was photographed in 1950, in a Houston, Texas campaign."
Some years later he became so hungry for God, that he went out to an old wood shed and there tried to pray. Suddenly there appeared a light in the form of a cross and a voice spoke to him in a language he did not understand. He prayed, 'Lord, if this is you, please, come back and talk to me again.' The light re-entered the shed three times. Then he knew he had met God..."
"Within six months after his conversion he began to preach the Word. His first service was in Jeffersonville, Indiana. There were as many as three thousand people at a single service and a large number were converted. A heavenly light appeared above him in the baptismal service following..."
"Brother Branham could detect and diagnose all diseases and afflictions. Secondly, he could tell the sufferers many events of their lives from childhood to the present time. He saw miracles in advance..."

1. The Inspiration of Scripture
Branham taught,"...you be sure to say just what the tape says! Don't say nothing else, because...I don't say that of my own! It's Him that says it!.. According to Malachi 4:5-6, Revelation 10:7."
"The Word of the Lord has promised that He would send to the earth once again the spirit of Elijah in the form of that End Time Messenger who was the Angel to the Seventh Church Age in these final closing days of time. We believe firmly that this promise was fulfilled in...William Marrion Branham."
"Of the hundreds of thousands of visions which the Lord gave to Brother Branham around the world, not one time has there ever occurred a vision which was not confirmed and attested to be the Word of the Lord."
"'Sirs, Is This the Time?' In this Message he told of a vision...This vision foretold a blast that would take place, the force of which would shake the whole country. This vision was fulfilled on Feb. 28, 1963 when 40 miles northwest of Tucson [Arizona], Brother Branham was caught up in a constellation of seven angels and was told to return to his church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where the mysteries of the Seven Seals would be revealed to him."

The Bible declares, "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son." (Hebrews 1:1-2a).
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16).
"For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." (2 Peter 1:21).
"But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:8).
"In the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel." (Romans 2:16).
Branham taught, "How can three persons be in one God? Not only is there no Bible for it but it shows even a lack of intelligent reasoning. Three distinct persons, though identical substance, make three gods, or language has lost its meaning entirely. God ... He has three offices or...a threefold manifestation...of the One Person, Jesus."
"This trinity (an absolutely unscriptural word) was based upon many gods of Rome. The polytheistic religion of the enemy began with the trinitarian doctrine... Our modern theologians...duped by Satan...still believe in three persons in the Godhead."
-An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages, pages 18-21, 184
The Bible declares, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24).
"Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19b).
"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5).
"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image'." (Genesis 1:26a).
"Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language." (Genesis 11:7a).
"In the beginning God created.... (Genesis 1:1a).
"When He had been baptized, Jesus came up...the Spirit of God descending...[Father] saying 'This
is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased'." (Matthew 3:16-17).
"The LORD Himself is God; there is none other besides Him." (Deuteronomy 4:35b).
3. The Personality of the Holy Spirit
Branham taught, "The Holy Spirit is the 'Word-Manifested Thought."
-An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages, page 155
The Bible declares, "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth ... He will testify of Me." (John 15:26).
"And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." (John 16:8).
"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth." (John 16:13a).
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit ... will teach you all things..." (John 14:26).
"His Spirit who dwells in you." (Romans 8:11b). [Compare Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 3:16.]
4. Jesus Christ
Branham taught, "That One God was manifested in the flesh. People talk about Jesus being the Eternal Son of God. Now isn't that a contradiction? Whoever heard of a Son being eternal? Sons have beginnings, but that which is eternal never had a beginning."
"Jesus was created. When the Holy Ghost came upon Mary He created within her the cell that would multiply and become the body of our Lord. That cell was created of God. That is who Jesus is."
-An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages, pages 19, 21, 137
The Bible declares, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14).
"No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him." (John 1:18).
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God." (John 1:1-2).
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." (Colossians 1:15).
"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given...His name will be called...Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6).
"God was manifested in the flesh..." (1 Timothy 3:16).
"Declared to be the Son of God with power...by the resurrection from the dead." (Romans 1:4).
"He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son." (1 John 2:22).
5. The Origin of Sin
Branham taught, "Here is where we receive the true revelation of the 'Serpent's Seed'. Here is what really happened in the Garden of Eden. The Word says that Eve was beguiled by the serpent...[See Genesis 3:1]. This beast was so close to a human being (and yet was pure animal) that he could reason and talk. He was an upright creature and was somewhat in between a chimpanzee and a man, but closer to a man. He was so close to being human that his seed could, and did mingle with that of the woman and cause her to conceive...Man and animal did mingle."
"Before Adam ever had any carnal knowledge of Eve, the serpent had knowledge ahead of him. And the one born of it was Cain. Cain was (born of, begotten of) that 'Wicked One'. 1 John 3:12."
"Since THREE sons were born from TWO acts of Adam, you know POSITIVELY that ONE of those three was NOT the son of Adam. The truth of the matter is that Eve had in her womb TWO sons (twins) from SEPARATE (sic) impregnations. She was carrying twins, with Cain's conception sometime previous to
that of Abel's."
-An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages, pages 98, 100-101
The Bible declares, "Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and
said, 'I have gotten a man from the LORD'." (Genesis 4:1).
"The woman said, 'The serpent deceived me, and I ate'" (Genesis 3:13b).
"Therefore, as through on man's (Adam's) offense judgment came to all men, resulting in
condemnation, even so through one Man's (Jesus') righteous act the free gift came to all men,
resulting in justification of life." (Romans 5:18).
"How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!...For you said in your heart: 'I
will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount
of the congregation...I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High
...'." (Isaiah 14:12-14).
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
6. The Second Coming of Christ
Branham taught, "Jesus did NOT say no man could know the year, month or week in which His
coming was to be completed. So I repeat, I sincerely believe and maintain as a private student of
the Word, along with Divine inspiration that 1977 ought to terminate the world systems and usher in
-The Seven Church Ages, page 322
The Bible declares, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven,
nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mark 13:32).
"Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming." (Matthew 24:42).
"Therefore, you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." (Luke 12:40).
7. Hell & Annihilation
Branham taught, "Satan... awaits his time of eternal annihilation...We believe that he will
absolutely be done completely away and annihilated."
"...Is the lake of fire eternal? No, sir. No, Sir. Anything that was created is not Eternal. If anybody ever tells you that you're going to burn in an Eternal hell; I want the scripture for it."
"...Everlasting does not compare with what is eternal, or that which had no beginning or end... everlasting means 'to a vanishing-point'. Destruction in 2 Thessalonians 1:9 ...positively means annihilation...to destroy to the ending point."
"Now don't let anyone say that I don't believe in a lake of fire and in punishment. I do. I don't know how long it will last, but it will eventually be removed."
-The Revelation of the Seven Seals, pages 282-283, 487; An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages, pages 134-135
The Bible declares,"The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever." (Revelation 20:10).
Branham is wrong! 'Eternal' and 'Everlasting' are used interchangeable in the Bible. "Depart from Me... into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41).
"Suffering the vengeance of eternal fire" (Jude 7b).
"And I give them eternal life..." (John 10:28a).
"Should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16b).
Branham taught that the wicked are to be 'destroyed'. However, Noah's generation was 'destroyed'
(Luke 17:27) as was the city of Sodom (Luke 17:28-29), yet they will come up to judgment in the
future (Matthew 11:22-24). Destruction does not mean annihilation, but it is applied to something
that is so ruined that it no longer serves the use for which it was designed.
"Fire that shall never be quenched." (Mark 9:43).
"He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the
presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest
day or night..." (Revelation 14:10b-11a).
"And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire."
