In The Beginning God
"In the beginning God." Those are the first four words of your Bible. This is where everything
began, from the very beginning, with God. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, and
all things were created by Him and for Him.
God was before anything else began and it is God's power that holds all things together. Every
person depends on the power of God. While many people do not wish to acknowledge God or give Him any
honor, men have substituted terms and say that they depend on the laws of nature. But if we are
honest, what are the laws of nature? Are they not really the laws of God which He has put into
operation?
"In the beginning God," there is a lot of meaning in that phrase. This is really where God belongs
in your life, in our plans, and in your daily schedule. God ought to be first in your plans. He is
not content with second place or any other place in your life. The greatest commandment of all is to
love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
God wants to have first place in your home. He asks you to live in His will and have the kind of
home which He desires. Nowhere else is there a pattern for a home which is as near to perfection,
peace, and purity as that which God has outlined. He asks the husband to love his wife as his own
body. He urges the wife to love her husband and respect him as the head of the home. The Bible
exhorts parents to bring up their children with the loving discipline which the Lord Himself
approves, giving them godly advice and guidance. I have personally visited thousands of homes and I
have not yet come into a home, where God is left outside, that has really been an ideal home. The
home which is most content is that home where God is honored and Christ is exalted as Saviour and
Lord.
Let it not be thought that a Christian home has no problems. As long as we are human we will be
confronted with problems but God gives us power to face these unpleasant situations and helps us to
solve them.
Who knows better how to run your life than God! It is the inventor who knows best how to operate the
machine he has invented. It is the mother who has the deepest concern for her tiny baby. And it is
God who has the deepest concern for us, because He created us in His likeness and for His purpose.
The best and wisest mother would err in judgment and guidance as she endeavors to bring up her
child, but God never errs and His knowledge is boundless. God never makes a mistake. His ways are
high and lofty; they are beyond judgment. We need to understand that God's ways are not always our
ways, nor are His thoughts our thoughts. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts," saith the Lord.
As the Bible begins to unfold to us God's plan of salvation, of how to live for God here and prepare
for eternity, it begins with, "In the beginning God." This is how you need to live, with God in the
beginning of your plans.
Are you asking God to guide you in His will? Are you seeking to know His plan for you? It is not
enough to make your own plans and then ask Him to help you fulfill these plans. Ask Him to guide you
in your plans. Ask God to direct you at the beginning of each day, at the beginning of each project
or task you face.
God loves you and is interested in you. No one can get along well for very long in his
own wisdom or ability. You need God to help you and guide you. And you can find Him. His promise is,
"You shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart."
