When I was still in grade school I envied my friend Eileen who could get piano lessons for 25 cents per half hour. Mom said we couldn't afford it.
Years later I was busy in a church in London, ON., with many different roles and responsibilities. At one mid-week prayer meeting I was handing out minutes from the Board meeting the night before to people behind me, when the pastor said, "Ruth, with all your abilities I would guess you can play piano too."
I looked up to say no, and in that moment I realized that if I had learned to play piano I'd have yet another "job" to do in church. I did them all willingly, but suddenly knew that God had set a boundary for me back in my childhood to keep me from overload. I've never complained again about being short-changed in the music area.
