Before a bulletin board displaying enlarged photos of Helen and Wendell Klassen, and of the three annual walkathons, we gathered in the basement meeting room on August 17, to show appreciation to those who had contributed to the Walkathon fund-raiser in June, and especially to recognize and thank Helen and Wendell Klassen for more than 25 years of service in this mission.
They had supported themselves for many of those years with a part-time cleaning job at Peavy Mart, but when that job became obsolete in May, they knew they would have to find another. They did - they found two full-time jobs at WalMart. But this meant they could no longer continue at our WTM offices.
The short program included ribbon presentations to several people and some solos by Joe Homontowski, who sang the Klassens' favourite songs. After the presentations and thank you speeches, everyone was invited to enjoy the light luncheon foods that had been spread out at the back of the room.
Priscilla Blackmore had begun as a part-time missionary in March, so she was quickly trained to step in to take over Helen's job full-time as the Administrative Assistant and bookkeeper.
The Director and Board members praise God for how He has provided for the Klassens, and also given us a good worker in Priscilla for the day-to-day operations of the mission office. Please bless Him with us!
