When Things Seem Impossible - biography of Paul and Patricia Dye

May I encourage you to read a very exciting and well written book entitled, When Things Seem Impossible. This book is written by Jean Dye Johnson and published by New Tribes Mission. It tells of the kidnapping and release of Paul Dye, Steve Estelle, Tim and Bunny Cain. Paul managed to escape but the rest were released after being held as hostages by the guerrilla for thirty three days in October of 1984. Most of this time was spent in the jungles of Columbia.

Tim and Bunny were missionaries working among the Puinaves. Tim was their Bible teacher and they were much loved by these Indian natives of Columbia. This helped their cause greatly when they were in trouble. They had two children at the time who were attending school in another city and after the parents were captured the children were flown to the United States and taken care of by their relatives.

Paul Dye was a missionary pilot who was training Steve Estelle.

Read how it came about that they were captured, how they survived their ordeal and how the Lord brought about their release.

Paul's father, Cecil Dye, had died a martyr's death in Bolivia in 1943 when he and four other missionaries had tried to reach the Ayore tribe in Bolivia. This story is told in God Planted Five Seeds and is also written by Jean Dye Johnson.

Paul's captors were mostly young people who had been brainwashed by the communist party. They had been promised many things but realized very little of what they were promised. They believed that man does not have a soul and that if you killed someone it was no different than cutting down a tree in the forest.

Once they had made promises to their party it became very difficult for them to escape as they would be hunted down and killed.

If you have trouble believing that God still does miracles and works things our for the good of those who are the called according to His purpose then this book is a must read.
