It was through the ministry of the Canadian Sunday School Mission and Ranger Lake Bible Camp my parents and brother came to know the Lord. My brother led me to Christ when I was 7. My Mom led my sister to Him around the same time. I'm thankful our whole family came to know the Lord, and that our parents raised us in the ways of the Lord. My mother was a tremendous influence in my life, and we were very close.
During my childhood and teenage years, camp at Ranger Lake was always a highlight of the summer. Attending high school in a small town where there were no other Christians was very hard. However, one big encouragement came at my Grade 12 graduation. The minister in town had always asked the blessing at the banquet. But that year the principal asked me to pray. I was very surprised.
The following three years I attended Briercrest Bible College and really enjoyed my studies. It was wonderful to have lots of Christian friends. I was baptized in the summer of 1966. After graduation I took secretarial training in Saskatoon and then worked here at Western Tract Mission, where I met Frank Porter. We were married in 1970.
The Lord blessed us with three sons, Corey, Danny and David. It has been a joy to see them all come to know the Lord. When they were small I enjoyed teaching Child Evangelism clubs in our home. It was a good outreach to our neighbourhood with quite a few children inviting Christ into their lives.
Working in a care home and later with a private nursing company have given me opportunities to share Christ. Last year it was a joy to lead two of my clients to the Lord - one was 89 years and the other was 96 years old.
My dad, Alvin Latrace was on the Board of Western Tract Mission for many years.
A Psalm that is special to me is Psalm 91. I especially like verse 1 - “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” I really enjoy correcting Mailbox Club lessons. Responses from my students are so encouraging. We also have lots of fun in the office, especially on our monthly birthday parties! - Linda Porter
