March 28, 2008 we met for the Annual meeting to hear reports of the work of the mission in 2007. The number present was higher than in the last few years. The reports were encouraging.
Henry Friesen led in some hymn-singing, and Priscilla Blackmore shared her testimony of God's guidance and gracious provisions before we began with the reports.
The numbers in the Correspondence Dept. almost all doubled in 2007. It was because of the contest announced in the children's newsletter, The Good News Express. For 10 names and addresses of other potential students, each clubber could get a Bible engraved with their name.
Instead of new tracts the main evangelistic thrust of the mission in 2007 was the production and mass mailing of a 16 page booklet, There is Hope, to 10 cities in Saskatchewan. We reached nearly 160,000 homes. Unity and Luseland churches are covering the mailing in their communities, and we hope to raise funds in 2008 to cover the rest of Saskatchewan.
Not much has happened with Scripture Signs in the last couple of years, however, just in the previous week new enthusiasm has risen for putting Scripture on other media besides billboards. We look forward to what the Lord may do in this area.
We looked at our financial reports. In brief, our 2007 revenue was $144,584 (compared to $122,063 in 2006). Our 2007 expenses were $151,383 ($113,092 in 2006). Most of that extra income was designated for the Blitz mailing in September. Our new furnaces were installed this last fall. We also looked at the budget proposed for 2008. Naturally, we will only be able to proceed according to the funds the Lord supplies through our supporters.
To that end we planned a Music/Dessert night for April 11th (with the musical Derksen family from Rosthern in concert), and a Walkathon for June 21st.
Arnold Stobbe had never been officially put into his role as Director; he was eased in at a time of need. It was done now with a simple motion. It was announced that the Board has appointed Joe Homontowski to be Assistant to Arnold, our respected, and much appreciated Director. Joe will be publicly recognized at the Music/Dessert night.
