We met at Faith River Church in Saskatoon on Sunday, September 16, to show appreciation to those who took part in the Walkathon, helping to raise $6000+ for the mailing Blitz of the booklet, "There is Hope." Receiving ribbons of thanks were Priscilla Blackmore, Betty Eidse, Mary Warkentin, Barb and Doug Jenkins, and a number who were absent. Also Jeremy Hildebrand for designing the Hope booklet.
Director, Arnold Stobbe had gifts of appreciation too for staff and missionaries with long terms of service. Helen and Wendell Klassen have worked with the mission for twenty years. They were with a family member in hospital, so Allen Martens shared Helen's report. Rick and Beryl Harbidge have worked with the mission for ten years. They were present from Alberta, and received a handsome plaque.
Beryl Harbidge and Joe Homontowski sang a fine hymn duet together.
Rick and Beryl Harbidge presented a short report on their work in Alberta with various individuals, including Hutterites, with whom they have built bridges of friendship.
The mass mailing of our new 16-page booklet, There is Hope, wass scheduled to go out through Canada Post to ten cities in Saskatchewan, starting the following day. This was presented to the audience, then the people broke into small huddles of two or three, to pray for those who would be receiving our mailing. Next the booklet and mailing was dedicated in prayer. Ruth Friesen, Cliff Nickel and Gerald Falk prayed from the platform.
It has been our fervent desire from the beginning, that this booklet go forth to give hope to those who are devasted by many consequeneces of sin, and that they find it in Christ Jesus.
Canada Post says there are an average of three people at each mailing address, so while WTM has sent out 155,900 booklets at a cost of .25 each (printing and postage), we feel we may have reached over 462,000 individuals.
Of the responses received so far, the majority requested correspondence courses. We are now praying that they will continue to study in God's Word.
