The Privilege of Helping Jesus

1 Corinthians 9:19, "For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more;" God could have sent angels but he chose us with all our weaknesses and limitations. What a privilege and responsibility to be chosen by God to be His helpers to bear witness to the light. We are restricted and hampered by the very same human limitations as everyone else. God promises to supply all that we need to be that light.

Acts 1:8 says, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;" We also have the power of the Word of God. (Hebrews 4:12), the power in the blood of Jesus - (I John 1:7b), and the power of prayer. "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'

We learn from Isaiah 6:1-8, when Isaiah saw the holiness of God his response was "Woe is me! I am undone!" After his confession his guilt was atoned for, Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send and who will go for us?" and Isaiah answered, "Here am I. Send me." God said, "Go and tell this people."

A little barefoot boy was being taunted continually by children in his neighbourhood with the remarks, "You are a little Christian. Why doesn't God tell His friends to send you some shoes?"

His pathetic answer was, "I think God tells them but they don't listen." It is time for each of us to listen and to start doing something about it. Our time in life grows shorter each minute. The day when we will meet God is increasingly near. Are you and I willing to be His servants, not because we have to, but as the chorus says, "I will serve You because I love You. You have given life to me. I was nothing until Jesus found me. You have given life to me."

God has given this life to us not just to keep it for ourselves, but that we would bring this light to the lost and dying all around us. If, as believers we would really listen we could hear the footsteps of the unredeemed as they travel with blind eyes further and further away from God. It will be worth it all when we hear the words of Jesus say to us, "Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord."
