The Power of Prayer and a Gospel Tract

To a young man in Calgary, Alberta, each new day is not a welcome mat, inviting him to see what is ahead. Chris suffers from Schizophrenia, limiting his ability to work and to even have purpose each day. He knows the Lord and has friends who pray for him and try to encourage him.

This past Christmas was a particularly difficult time for him. However, he was moved to head out into the city streets, armed with gospel tracts and a desire to make a difference in someone's life. After several tracts were rejected, he came across a homeless person who accepted his offering.

Not feeling that the day had been worthwhile, Chris went home, still with a heavy heart.

The next day found Chris bravely back at the very same spot where he'd handed out tracts, spotting the very same homeless person with whom he'd shared the written Word. This man told Chris that he had read the tract and was moved to pray the prayer suggested at the end, inviting Christ into his life!

Imagine the joy that Chris experienced in hearing that! A new purpose for his life had been born!

What if Chris's friends hadn't been praying for him? What if Chris hadn't been willing to obey God in making himself available?

The power of prayer and the Word of God, along with using His purpose for our lives are precious blessings. These blessings are summed up in the following scriptures.

... "the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." James 5:16

.. "so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22, 23
