Louise Morris

(Missionary Biography)

Stronger Than the StrongLouise was born in the early 1930s in Los Angeles but moved to Oregon with her parents where they lived till she wanted to go to a Bible School. Her parents at this time decided to move to Three Hills, Alberta. Her mother taught music at the Prairie Bible Institute where Louise attended for four years. Here she also met her future husband Jim Morris. Her father was the basketball coach at Prairie and Jim was a basketball player.

Louise gave her life to the Lord when she was eleven. Her grandmother read missionary stories to her and her grandfather led the family in daily Bible readings and prayer. She and Jim both read books written by Isobel Kuhn and received a desire to go into missions in Southeast Asia.

One year before they went overseas Louise took a course in Missionary medicine and Jim worked for Canadian Sunday School Mission in British Columbia. After this they attended candidate school in Philadelphia.

When they applied to Overseas Missionary Fellowship to go out as missionaries they were both accepted. They had previously been advised not to get married until they had served two years in Thailand. This they found difficult but complied. They got married at a western wedding in Chiangmai, Thailand.

They faced disappointments along the way when people were slow to respond to the gospel and some turned back to their old ways after having walked with the Lord but some returned to the Lord and after many years the Lord’s harvest increased which brought them much joy. They served many years among the Karen people of Thailand. Louise has written their story in the book “Stronger Than the Strong” published by OMF International and is distributed by Christian Literature Crusade offices.

The book covers a period from 1933 to 1994 when Jim and Louise returned for a visit to the Karen people amongst whom they had worked. Later their son Nathan, his wife Kelly and their four sons went to teach God’s Word to the Karen people who had given their lives to the Lord.
