Nadia Chaplya was her given name. She was born December 31st, 1924 in the upper Ukraine to Anton and Oksana Chaplya. In 1931 her alcoholic father was captured by the town constable Ivan Dushko because Ivan wanted Anton's property and Anton refused to give it to him.
Her mother, Oksana, was a God fearing, praying mother and worked hard to keep the family alive. In her early years Nadia did not believe in God .
When the Germans came to Russia in 1943 they selected young people who were in good health and physically fit and took them to Germany to help in their war efforts. Nadia was chosen and sent to a farm where she worked hard doing whatever she was asked to do. She was privileged in that she worked for a Christian family and eventually after observing and reading books given to her by her boss she found peace with God.
Three times she had a proposal to enter into a relationship with a young man but each time she refused because they did not have the same belief in God.
After the war was over, the church she was attending found a sponsor for her in the U.S.A. and she went realizing that she may never be able to connect with her family again. She stayed six weeks with the farm family who sponsored her in Hamilton, Michigan and then worked in a sewing factory but God was telling her to move on because there was more for her to do in His name. Nadia became Nancy Chapel in America.
She then worked hard preparing for full time ministry. She took nurses training and teachers training by working hard at part time jobs and allowing God to work out all the details through his people. Now God called her to serve Him in Nigeria where she served for almost twenty years.
A complete and well written story is found in "Out of the Dark and Into God's Light" written by Dolores Bos. It is published by Christian Literature Crusade in Pennsylvania.
