Our New Discipleship Training Program

Joe and Penny Homontowski; Joe is the Director of the
Discipleship Training Program

It has been a little over a year since we moved to Saskatoon, and God has been working. I have been working on the paper work to get an office incorporated for Source of Light Ministries International. I have been trying to find a right way to get it started, and I believe I have found what has to be done.

The first thing I have to do is get a workers permit through the government for Penny and me. I am in the process of doing that right now. Then I can finish the paper work to get the office incorporated.

Source of Light needs a branch office here in Canada, to make it easier to cash checks from Canada and to promote the use of materials in Canada. Please pray that God will lead me to the right places to distribute the Mailbox Club lessons.

Last year we were able to send materials to a camp in Winkler, Manitoba for them to use. I tried a different approach to getting the lessons in the hands of youth. Winkler Bible Camp purchased the first lessons from me, and during the camp week the campers completed them. The camp then mailed the completed lessons to us, and we sent the second lessons to the campers at their homes. This was very successful; we were able to get 11% of the campers to send the second lesson back to us and continue doing the lessons. With the camping season coming closer, I am trying to contact more camps to do the same thing. If you know of a camp that would like to do this, please contact the office at 1-306-244-1550 and let me know.

Another way I want to get the lessons to be used more in Canada is by getting churches to use them as part of their church ministry. Three new churches have begun using the lessons to help their church grow and to disciple the people in their church. Several churches were already doing this before we moved up here, but these are new ones that started since we came. These three churches are using the material in three different ways. One church is using the lessons for younger children in junior church. Another church covered their whole city door to door, handing out invitation cards to do lessons. They have a few people that have been doing the lessons through this approach. The last church is preparing to teach young girls in their church the Love, Dating and Marriage course as a group. All of these churches are grading the material themselves. I would rather have the churches grade, because there are lessons that ask them if they are saved and what they have learned from the lesson. It is better for the churches to see those answers in their area and be able to work with the people than for us here at WTM. Many churches today are not discipling their people. This is a way that we can put material in churches, to help people grow and see souls saved.

Another way we use the material is by getting the churches to use it as curriculum in Vacation Bible Schools. We had one church do this last year. They did the same thing the camp did: they had the children do the lesson that week at VBS, and the church sent the lessons to us at WTM. This church had 75 children attend their VBS. Nearly 25 of the children have continued on with the lessons. As a result, we have seen some of the children get saved which is very exciting!

If you can give me contacts that would want to use the Mailbox Club lessons in their VBS this summer, please call me at WTM. It would be greatly appreciated.

I am so excited that God has put us in Canada. I would like to stay up here for a long time. Please pray for Penny and me as we send paper work in to the government. I am taking my time to make sure everything is in order before I send anything in. It all costs money, and I want to be careful how I use the finances that God is sending through our supporters. Thank you for all your prayers for us.
