After the welcome, a dedication to Mark with a lit lantern, a prayer and release of the balloons representing prayer... they were off!
A good group of 48 people took part, starting at Mark's tree at the north end of the Meewasin Trail along the Saskatchewan river in Saskatoon. We raised over $5000 on a beautiful day!
About noon the bikers, and walkers and scooter rider began to arrive. Volunteers had lined up the barbecue and picnic foods, so that people could dig into their hamburgers and hotdogs right away.
When everyone had arrived, and the pledge sheets were totalled, the winners were announced. Wendell Klassen had raised the most, and got the first choice of the prizes, taking the tickets to a Blades game. Arnold Stobbe won second, and took the free small airplane ride over Saskatoon. Other winners also took their prizes gladly, but everyone cheered the most to hear that we had raised over $5000 in such a pleasant way.
An Appreciation Tea will be held, weather permitting, down by this same beautiful Mewasin Trail on Sunday, September 11, at 3 pm. (If the weather turns unpleasant, we will meet in the basement of our office building on 33rd Street as in previous years.
